Seikatsu Happyou

What's the biggest event in Hikari's school this month?
Well, Wakaizumi Youchien held a Seikatsu Happyou or Performance about Daily Life on Sunday, February 26, 2006. In this event, the students performed some songs, dances, and plays that they have practiced since a month ago.
Hikari performed three times. First, Hikari became Ari-chan aka the Little Ant aka Si Semut (which fits his nickname: ARI), then he danced with a custom and a baloon, after that he sang some songs and played finger cymbals. Of course, now and then, he did something else during the performance like yawning, chatting with his friend next to him, staring at the wall and ceiling, scrubbing his face, and the kinds :(

Below is Hikari playing as Ari-chan. He was holding a big mushroom. Together with his fellow little Ants, they searched for food as a supply for winter. On the other hand, the Giri-chan aka the Grasshopper spent the whole summer playing and being lazy. All of you surely know how the story goes on, right?!

Watch Hikari. He was wearing a red vest. He was standing on the left corner (your left).

Next performance that Hikari participated is Baloon Dance. Here is Hikari with his green robe, a green hat, and a blue baloon.

Hikari's last performance is singing and playing the finger cymbals. Can you see him? He is the third kid from the right (your right) side.

Yup! That's Hikari in action. There are also other incidents that we missed to capture, like when he yawned, and when he ran to the audience to wave at us after his part was over. Uh-uh...

Here also the performances by the students from other classes:
The princess-who-can't-laugh story on the left, and the flower dance on the right.

The Ninja dance (which Hikari loves to imitate).

It was raining the whole day started from the night before, but made ourselves go to the school anyway -by bike, mind you. We didn't regret it, though. It was such a great moment! Rain was nothing compared to the chance to see Hikari in action :)

Hikari Misses Grandpa

11:57 AM |

It's been a few days since Hikari mentioned to Mama that he wanted to return to Indonesia. It came out as a surprise for Mama. After a year in Japan, this is the first time Hikari ever mentioned his wish to return home.
So, what is his reason?
He wants to be with his grandparents, especially Eyang Kakung.

Hikari: Mama, aku mau ke Indonesia. (I want to go to Indonesia)
Mama: Indonesia?
Hikari: Iya, ke tempat Eyang Kakung tuh. (to Grandpa's place)
Mama: Oh, Hikari mau ke rumah Eyang Kakung? (Oh, you want to go to Grandpa's house?)
Hikari: Ung.. (this means Yes in Japanese)
Mama: Hikari mau ngapain ke rumah Eyang Kakung? (what do you want to do there?)
Hikari: Mau sama Eyang. (I want to be with Grandpa)
Mama: ............... *speechless*

Last night, before going to sleep, he mentioned again his wish to be with his Eyang, both Eyang Uti and Eyang Kakung. He even said that Mama should go with him to Eyang's house, while Papa can stay behind :(
This is a contrary of what he usually says before. He often mentions he likes being here in Japan, he enjoys school, he prefers to stay here than to return home. But, come to think of it, I think I shouldn't have been so surprised about this. I mean, Hikari grew up with his grandparents until he was 2.5 years old. Hikari and Eyang Kakung were best friends. They were 'naughty' together. Whenever I reprimanded him for his mischief, Hikari would run to Eyang Kakung and hid there in his hug. They shared the same jokes, the same mischief, the same styles. Eyang Kakung was Hikari's role model, and Hikari was Eyang Kakung's spoiled kid.
Eyang Kakung was actually a very strict, firm, and rather grim person. But, all are gone when Hikari was around. He gave up easily for Hikari. He gave in for Hikari.
You see, at home, Eyang Kakung had a favorite arm chair where nobody else but himself was allowed to sit on it. He always made everyone sit on other chair no matter what. And when he watched TV, he would watch his own favorite programs, no matter how much the others felt toward the program. But, he would have no power when Hikari stepped in. Hikari would made him sit on other chair! Hikari would made him watch Hikari's favorit programs on TV. And Eyang Kakung just couldn't complain...

And now, Hikari misses his Eyang....

Boys and Girls,
This is a picture of the famous Jurassic Park. In the park full of giant trees, you can see Brachiosaurus aka long-necked-big-boned Dinosaur and Pterosaur aka Dino bird.
Brachiosaurus is busily eating fresh leaves from the treetops, while Pterosaur is flying above him, probably trying to find some food for himself.
This picture clearly shows you the daily life of Dinosaurs in the Jurassic period. Err... that would be about 205 to 141 million years ago.

And below, is the painter of the picture. Meet him in person...

The painter was so proud of his picture that he insisted on posing next to it. He even demonstrated how some dinosaurs behaved...

Now, can we have your picture, Sir? Thank you, Sir...

While waiting...

11:15 PM |

While waiting for the school bus, Hikari likes to play with Bilgung-kun. This Mongolian kid is Hikari's new friend at school and at the dorm. He is our next-room neighbor.

There is also Imti-kun, a Bangladeshi.

The three of them go to Wakaizumi Yochien. The three of them don't speak the same language. So, how, do they interact? A bit of English, some words in Japanese, and a lot of mother tongues. It's really fun to see.
